Shikanji( Spiced Lemonade)

Shikanji is the upgraded lemonade that will add zing to your summer days and get togethers.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups Water
  • Juice from 2 large lemons use 3-4 lemons if they are smaller in size
  • 6 tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Black Salt(Kala Namak)
  • 1 ½ teaspoon Chaat Masala reserve the ½ teaspoon for topping the drinks
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder optional

Instructions
 

  • Roast the cumin, black pepper and coriander seeds for low heat for a couple of minutes. Turn off the heat and let the spices cool down little.Grind the spices in a spice grinder or with a mortar & pestle.
  • Add the water to a pitcher and add 1 ½ teaspoon of the roasted cumin and black pepper powder and all of the other ingredients. Mix well. Taste to check if it needs more sugar or salt and adjust accordingly.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving or serve right away poured over some ice. Top with fresh mint leaves and a sprinkle of chaat masala.

Notes

  1. If you are running short of time or don't want to roast the spices, just combined 11/4 teaspoon of cumin powder with ¼ teaspoon of black pepper powder. If using coriander seeds, combine ¾ teaspoon of cumin and coriander powder each and ¼ teaspoon of black pepper powder.
